The Reading Railroads streamlined Crusader passenger train had two observation cars, one at each end so the trains would not have to be turned at the end of the run. Special tender/coal car had an addition to its rear to wrap around the observation.

With such a large stake as an anthracite coal hauler, the Reading Railroad stepped into dieselization very slowly when it purchased ten of 4-unit sets of EMD FT diesel locomotives.
